The hormonal systems of fish have recently produced a number of important research findings. In part the stimulus for this work has come from the developing areas of fish farming and aquaculture, where artificial control of spawning by hormones is now a practical possibility. Furthermore, there has been an awarenees that non-mammalian hormones might be used therapeutically in man, and today fish calcitonin is being investigated as a treatment for human parathyroid disorders.
